Safety Concerns at Westown Green MATC Student Addresses Board

FAST Fund Student Advocacy Coordinator and MATC student, Elsa addressed the MATC Board over the growing list of issues and safety concerns facing MATC students at the student housing facility Westown Green. Elsa's comments begin at the 17 minute mark and can be watched HERE. Elsa also shares the prepared remarks of a current Westown Green resident. The problem at Westown Green is ongoing and a concerning situation that is currently facing MATC students. How the facility is managed as well as how student residents are selected, treated and assisted with housing at Westown Green and their safety are all among our concerns. Some suggestions offered by Elsa to improve things include: adding student employees to work as RA's or something similar, welfare checks, improved/clear communication, packaging housing costs with students' tuition and greater understanding/communication about rent payments and potential evictions.

MATC students deserve better than what is currently being offered as their only housing option, and we are hopeful through our advocacy that improvements will be made.
