MOHELA’s ‘Cease and Desist’ Letter Offers New Evidence of Mismanagement

In late March, the Student Borrower Protection Center and the AFT petitioned the U.S. Department of Education Office of Inspector General to audit the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority, also known as MOHELA. On March 25, MOHELA sent the SBPC a “cease and desist” letter, alleging that the “tone” of “The MOHELA Papers”—the SBPC and AFT’s report uncovering damning information about the student loan giant—“is false and misleading” and calling for advocates to retract the blockbuster report while threatening legal action.
