The Woman Behind the New Deal
As Women’s History Month comes to a close, we honor Frances Perkins, the first woman Secretary of Labor (under FDR) and the mastermind behind many public service initiatives and safety nets established through the New Deal—programs that millions rely on today. Her leadership established the foundation of modern labor rights. Yet, these very protections are now threatened by the slash-and-burn mentality sweeping through Washington today. Perkins’ legacy is a call to action—defending the progress she fought for is more urgent than ever.
