History of Local 212

55 years ago in January 1969 the MATC faculty went on strike to demand that the faculty be treated with dignity and respect. For 40 days these courageous men and women walked the picket line in the bitter cold. Most of them are no longer with us but their legacy endures. Here is their story

Many are unaware of Local 212's history and what had to be done to achieve what we have today. READ HERE for a cautious reminder of why our union is needed at MATC and what could happen without Local 212's robust membership.

You can also learn more about Local 212's history on our website.

Our members are our power. Please share Local 212’s history and “Why 212” with colleagues on your worksite. Contact your VP of Membership, Bev Johnson at bjohnson@Local212.org to volunteer to assist with member outreach, our Membership Committee or to volunteer for our spring 2024 recertification campaign.
