Why Paraprofessionals are Unsung Heroes of Education

In this previous episode of Teachers’ Lounge, Dana Gilbreath, a seasoned paraprofessional at Valley View Community School District in Romeoville, Illinois, shares her journey of transitioning from paraprofessional to classroom teacher. After decades of supporting students, Dana, an African-American educator, noticed the growing diversity among her students wasn't reflected in the teaching staff. This realization inspired her to step up and contribute to the change she wished to see. Her story highlights the dedication and passion that drive educators to make a lasting impact.

Teachers’ Lounge celebrates those who shape lives, encouraging listeners to nominate teachers, coaches, counselors, or professors for future episodes. Nominations can be sent to teacherslounge@niu.edu
