Local 212 President Lisa Conley with the AFT's CTE Committee

We are pleased to have President Lisa Conley representing Local 212, AFT-Wisconsin, and the nation’s Technical & Higher Ed educators on the AFT’s National Career & Technical College (CTE) Committee. President Conley joined AFT President Randi Weingarten, and other AFT-CTE committee members from across the country and AFT staff, as well as local, regional and national labor, education, government and business experts for two days of issues, resources, advocacy, visioning and planning discussions in Boston last week. Activities included presentations from, and discussions with, key figures from national agencies and government departments and tours of two public CTE high schools. The latter featured discussions with students and teachers, both of whom voiced the benefits of the experiential learning provided by CTE programming on the educational success of high school students and as an important formative means to assist every student in reaching their full potential. Next up for the committee will be collaborative development of an AFT platform and action map that encompasses all levels of public education. This work is another example of the AFT fighting for what students and communities need.
