Read a few reasons why they wanted to be a part of Local 212's leadership team below:

I feel that my background & professional experience, skills, and vision will continue to be assets to our union, its membership, and therefore, our students, over the next biennium. I am immensely humbled by the support that Local 212’s membership has provided me these past five years. I am equally proud of the fact that, thanks to our collective action, Local 212 has remained united, strong, vibrant, and vital during my time as your president even in the face of continued fall-out from ACT 10, major college restructuring, faulty implementation of a new compensation structure, political turmoil, societal unrest related to racism and inequity, and of course, the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, we have dealt with many issues, solved many problems, added another bargaining unit, stood up for our students, fought for what is right both within MATC and in the community, and supported each other. But there is still much work to be done. -Lisa Conley

I would like to continue the work my Local 212 colleagues and I started during the last academic year. It is my belief that our efforts can help to effectively re-imagine Guided Pathways to create a culture at MATC that faculty and students can be proud to be a part of. -Dwayne Schlund

In my five years at MATC, three as part-time, two as full time, I've learned a lot about working within a union organized college and I enjoy helping my colleagues interpret the faculty handbook when they have a situation that the union might help them resolve. I have served on a number of interesting "cases" and been through the disciplinary process myself and know what giving a person a "fair hearing" entails and how to appeal an ill-considered decision by the admin. I want my colleagues to get the help they need to serve our students best and when that involves a conflict, I want to stand with them!  - Eric Hagedorn

In my twenty plus years in the entertainment industry I have played many roles, and worked in many capacities for all sorts of “bosses." On Monday it could be a billionaire CEO of a Fortune 500 company, on Tuesday some club-promoter, while on Wednesday the elders of the neighborhood church…  then on Friday one of hundreds on a crew at the local stadium. I know how different settings can necessitate different approaches, when one-size may “fit all,” and when it definitely WILL NOT. I have had to learn to adapt quickly, and collaborate to solve problems with people I have just met; all while working to maintain the DIGNITY and STANDARDS of my profession. I am still new to teaching, but I love to keep learning, and share what I know. It is these experiences that will inform my approach as I pursue our interests as the Deputy Vice President of American  Federation of Teachers Local 212. - H.S. "Crash" Crawford

I am running for this position because I am passionate about my work and also making sure I work in a good environment. I am often one to speak up and make sure that my voice is heard, even without an official union position. I believe being in this position I can help influence change on behalf of the paras. -P. Lynnett Harvey

I want to use my skills and experience to assist the VP with all the support needed to accomplish union related activities. Moreover, I want to gain experience and serve a active member as I participate in regular union leadership, Executive Board, and General Membership meetings, while serving on union and college committees. -Peter Cuoto

Mequon Campus has gone through enormous change in the last several years. It needs a place at the table to continue to be positioned for growth and to serve the employees and students there. -Brenda Wingard-Haynes

The Health and Safety of our faculty, students and staff are of paramount importance for the successful operation of Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC).  In partnership with Local 212 Leadership, I believe an active voice and equal representation in all health and safety matters at MATC are crucial.  I appreciate all of the work that previous Health and Safety Committee Chairs have undertaken and strive to maintain a healthy, safe environment as our institution moves forward. -Judy Springer
