FAST Fund Highlights of 2019-2020

The Local 212/MATC FAST (Faculty and Students Together) Fund provides quick, financial support to MATC students experiencing economic emergencies with a minimum of red tape.

The FAST Fund helped:

  • Nou, a first generation American, pay her tuition. She graduated as a respiratory therapist and went to work on the front lines of the COVID 19 pandemic in New Newark, New Jersey, Brownville, Texas and Miami. When she returned, she gave the FAST Fund her “first big girl donation,” a $500 check.

  • Helped six students secure glasses through LensCrafters’ Onesight program.

  • Bria expunge her record. After interning with the FAST Fund, Bria was hired by SDC in the rental assistance program. She was promoted to supervisor after two months. Her office is in the same building where as a foster child she would meet with her mother in supervised visits.

MATC instructor, Tammy Metzke, wrote, “Just a quick note of thanks for helping out one of my accounting students. Before he received the funds, he did not have a textbook and was failing the class... I referred him to the Fast Fund where he received funds the same day. With your help, he was able to purchase the textbook and access code and catch up in class. He is now proudly earning an "A" in my class. Thanks again for all you and the Fast Fund do to help our students!”
